Political culture miffs Muhith

The finance minister said, Despite making headway in the economy, information technology, women's empowerment and healthcare, Bangladesh is yet to improve its 'political culture',

"Our biggest failure is that we failed to change our political culture," A M A Muhith said.

The finance minister was making a commemorative speech to observe the seventh death anniversary of former finance minister Shah A M S Kibria. The programme was organised by Bangladesh Foundation for Development Research (BFDR) at the National Museum.

"I have no idea how it (political culture) will change," he said after expressing his concerns over the issue.

Former finance minister and Awami League leader Kibria was killed in a grenade attack in Habiganj on Jan 27, 2005.

The finance minister blamed the current political attitude for the killing of Kibria. "I don't remember him having any enemies," he said.

Muhith said, "But the positive sign is that the investigation has been reopened and it's heading towards a new direction," .
